BallenIsles was founded in 1963 when the PGA of America teamed up with legendary developer John D. MacArthur to build golf course and a country club. The original courses were designed by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee. This was the new home of the PGA of America, and the club was called JDM Country Club.

The club originally featured one 18 hole golf course and two nine hole golf courses. The East course was the qualifying course for the PGA tour card. Golf Legends such as Lanny Watkins and Tom Watson qualified for their PGA tour card on the East course. In 1971 over a 10 month span the course was home to the PGA Championship, The World Cup and the PGA Senior Championship. Celebrities like Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, Perry Como and Bing Crosby played have on the East course.
By 1970 the club had expanded to three 18 hole golf courses now known as the East, South and North Courses. The golf courses at BallenIsles offer a truly unique experience, as they were built over 45 years ago, and although the courses have all been renovated over the years, they offer an unparalleled setting of mature trees and landscape unlike any other club in the area
In 1989 home development began and was completed in 2005. Although BallenIsles was originally zoned for 2,384 homes, less than 1,700 were built on 1,312 acres. Over the years more than 20 different builders have contributed to the architecture of BallenIsles. Today home prices range from the mid $300,000 to over 2 million.
Celebrities such as Venus and Serene Williams, Bruce Fleisher Jamie Lynn Siegler (from HBO Sopranos) and singer Vic Damone have made BallenIsles their home.
Today the community boasts a Main Clubhouse of 72,000 square feet, and the club recently added a new 62,000 square foot sports complex which includes a spa world class tennis facility, fitness center and swimming pools.
